"I'm passionate about reading, technology, and sharing my knowledge, time, and experience to help develop future leaders."
Originally form Angola, Africa, Augusto and his wife moved to Canada in their early 20s. They currently live in Oakville (near Toronto) with their daughter and son.
In his spare time, Augusto enjoys spending time with his family, reading, and working with his hands building things or taking on little projects around the house.
An avid reader and lover of learning, Augusto satisfies his thirst for knowledge and curiosity by reading a book a week.
What is something on your bucket list?
My dream is that my wife and I can travel the world. I would love to get a house near the beach in some tropical country.
What are you passionate about?
I’m an avid reader and am passionate about learning. I read a book per week, both fiction and non-fiction. For fiction, I like science-fiction and Tom Clancy. For non-fiction, I enjoy reading about self improvement, leadership, and technology.
I’m also passionate about sharing my knowledge, time, and experience to help develop leaders.
Lastly, I would say I am passionate about technology.
How did you get to where you are in your career?
Hard work mixed with a lot of luck. There are many times where I was in the right place at the right time. Most importantly, I’m an avid learner. I’m not afraid to switch careers for the opportunity to continue to learn and grow.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Worry less about other people and focus more on what you can control. Be more open to learning.
Why is data important to you?
I believe data is important because it drives so many important aspects of our daily lives, both professionally and personally.
In my personal life, I used data to track my BMI and weight over two years, which helped me become healthier.
As a company, we track many metrics, which helps us monitor the health of the organization and make timely and informed decisions.
Data is a core tenant to help us live in a better world. Take for example the Covid-19 pandemic — it showed us how important data is. How else would we know how serious the conditions are, what precautions to take, and how we are managing the solution if not for having data in near-real time?
What do you love about working for Infostrux?
What I love about Infostrux is the people. We work with people who are knowledgeable, experienced, and truly care about working with data to make a difference. That creates a culture of openness and listening to each other.
What is one of your favourite quotes and why?
“Working hard for something we don’t care about is called stress. Working hard for something we care about is called passion.” – Simon Sinek
I love this quote because it captures the essence of what I believe and how I approach work.
